About Osteria dei Pontefici

In 1959 the Maggi family, of Abruzzo origin, led by Mr Antonio and Mrs Mimma, started their life in the world of roman food. Mr Antonio and Mrs Mimma now have a large family who have since built one of the most successful restaurants in Rome – Osteria dei Pontefici (Literally translated this means, “The Pontiff’s Restaurant”)

Today their sons, Leonello and Fabio, continue with renewed passion the devotion to the Roman cuisine. Mrs Mimma is still seen daily coming in and out of the kitchen, making sure the quality of traditional Roman food is just as it was 50 years ago. The Maggi family provide many typical dishes from Abruzzo as well as the tradition Roman cuisine.

The restaurant has the friendliest environment, with regular customers including families, business men and woman and many others who are visiting Rome from around the world. All come to enjoy the exquisite tastes of the Roman menu.

The spacious, bright restaurant is celebrating its 50th Anniversary and has just undergone a complete renovation. From installing new marble floors to fitting a state-of-the-art kitchen and bathrooms, literally every part of the restaurant has been enhanced to convey the ambiance of Rome’s passion in spectacular dishes.
